I am a entrepreneur and passionate patient who helps educate healthcare professionals about life with a chronic diagnosis and is a strong advocate for patients to remain connected to the labour market when chronic illness or life crises strike.

Mentor

I experience in fostering interdisciplinary collaboration as a dedicated and passionate patient expert with 30 years of hands-on involvement. And I am a mentor for EIT Health and have actively participated in MedTech Bootcamps for startups.

Legal frame works

I have worked in the Denmark’s healthcare system, where I has served as a patient advocate at multiple levels, including clinical trials and the formulation of legal frame works. I did contributed to diverse initiatives, ranging from user-centered design and clinical trial development to the integration of legal regulations across public healthcare facilities and medical centers.

I am a certified patient expert at The European Patients’ Academy on Therapeutic Innovation (EUPATI) in Patient Expert Training Progamme in Medicines Research and Development.

My journey

My journey in advocacy commenced in 2000 with the establishment of the pioneering diagnostic association, marking the initial steps toward championing the rights and well-being of patients. This foundational effort was soon complemented by the orchestration of various patient-centric events, showcasing a commitment to fostering community, awareness, and support.

The pinnacle of this trajectory was reached in 2018 with the co-founding of ‘Patient in Focus,’ a testament to the dedication to placing patients at the heart of healthcare discussions and decisions. Subsequently, my involvement expanded to include the establishment of the Patient’s Unit, a platform dedicated to amplifying patient voices and experiences in a patients advocate community.

Engagement

In addition my engagement has taken me further with organizations like EIT Health, EUPATI, EU-X-CT, and others reflects a commitment to collaborative efforts at both national and international levels. Through these partnerships, my goal to contribute to advancements in healthcare, patient empowerment, patient engagement, and the overall enhancement of the my experience.

The journey continues, fueled by a passion for advocacy, a dedication to patient-centered initiatives, and a belief in the transformative power of shared experiences in navigating the complex landscape of healthcare.

In addition to these impactful initiatives I have made a blog; Livetmedgigt.dk, on Life with arthritis to be a valuable resource and a personal space for sharing insights, experiences, and perspectives on living with certain health conditions.

I’ve been on this journey for many years, and and turned my weakness into strength.

Personal note

Patients Unite was born out of my personal journey. As a committed entrepreneur, I place great importance on my health and self-care. Through my first nonprofit organization, Patient in Focus, and my role as a patient advocate, I have had the privilege of meeting incredible individuals living with chronic conditions and creating change in the world. There is a remarkable strength in these ambitious people who, despite their challenges, display courage, passion and an exceptional work ethic.

On a more personal note, I live in Denmark with my husband over 33 years and our little 12 year old poodle. I am enriched with two wonderful “adult” children and a lovely grandchild. My spare time is spent playing golf with friends and family. The same can be said for my holidays, where I always try to keep going despite my many multiple diagnoses. I’ve been a patient for many, many years and have seen a little bit of everything, from old-fashioned paper review to today’s state-of-the-art and often with artificial intelligence (AI) systems.
